Demystifying facial care

Psssst: Atelier Tonic is launching its new range of facial care products this Sunday, March 5!

Before you settle on a facial skincare routine, there are a few things to consider to make your cleansing and moisturizing routine enjoyable, effective, and safe.

Here is some advice from our production manager and beautician, Audrey:

First of all, it is important to distinguish between body care, facial care and eye contour care. Why? Well, although the skin covers our entire body (it is the largest organ we have, yes yes), it does not have the same composition or the same chemical reactions everywhere: the skin on the face is thinner and more fragile than that of the rest of the body, and the eye contour is even more delicate than the rest of the face. So it is better to use the right care for the right areas of the body.
Taking care of your skin helps protect it from everyday aggressions (free radicals, sun rays, pollution, etc.) as well as treat certain problems inherent to our skin type (e.g. acne, rosacea, eczema, etc.)

Example of the type of daily routine to adopt:
***Always wash your hands before carrying out your skincare routine***
1. Cleanser: every day, twice a day. In the morning to prepare the skin to receive the protective care, in the evening to help the skin receive the care you want to give it (it is during the night that the skin regenerates best and works with the care you give it).
2. Toner: Every day, just after cleansing and before moisturizers. What does it do? It lightly moisturizes the skin and makes it more receptive for future treatments.
3. Serum: every day (preferably in the evening), under an evening cream (while your body is resting and your skin is not subject to external aggressions, it can better nourish and regenerate itself).
4. Moisturizer: Every day, after your cleanser and serum, morning and evening. Venti Cream has been proven for over 7 years. It remains one of our most popular products, effective no matter your skin type.
5. Sunscreen: Every morning before leaving the house, over your day cream and before your makeup, if you wear any. Druide's sunscreen allows you to protect yourself naturally without looking like a little ghost haha.

Tips for a weekly/monthly routine:
1. Exfoliant: 1 to 2 times a week maximum. You should limit it to once a week on a skin type with excessive sebum production (if you have the famous " shiny forehead" at the end of the day, you are targeted by this advice). Sebum is a protective barrier of the skin that should not be removed in excess. Daily exfoliation could have the opposite effect: your sebaceous glands would see this exfoliation as a threat and could, as a result, produce more sebum to protect themselves... which would be really boring! Make sure to use a gentle exfoliant, which will avoid creating mini-lesions on your skin and therefore damage it instead of unclogging it.
2. Mask: 1 time per week or a few times per month
3. Lymphatic, remodeling and other massages: if needed, can be done daily. Gua sha made of volcanic stone remains one of our favorites to this day.
Don't hesitate to find out about essential oils that can be added to your facial treatment to personalize your products to your energy and needs!
Above all, remember that your skincare routine should be a relaxing moment that you allow yourself, with scents and textures that you like. It is a moment to calm down, breathe and sit down with yourself. A healthy and respectful routine can increase self-confidence, reduce stress and improve self-esteem.
Hoping to have been able to help you find your way in this sometimes complex world!
